An old sketch, a slice of time

This one takes me back a few years and several hundred miles. I was living in center-city Philadelphia in 1984. The sketchbook this drawing comes from was given to me by my girlfriend's parents. They liked the fact that I was a young, driven artist who drew continuously. This sketch in particular was just a doodle, based loosely on a couple that I encountered in Rittenhouse Square Park one afternoon. They were completely oblivious to the world around them, as if starring in some kind of romantic musical. It was quite ghastly, to be honest. The ragged style was inspired by underground comics like The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, Mickey Rat and Mr. Natural.
